Description

Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital is seeking a Full Time Sterile Processing Supervisor.

 

Shift: Days

 

Position Goal: To provide hospital departments with sterile instruments and trays.

Direct and coordinate Sterile Processing Department’s staff and processes in

accordance with departmental policies and procedures through AAMI/AORN.

Position Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates clinical activity:
    • Completes unit assignments, overseeing work schedules.
    • Monitors work flow based on operating room schedules.
    • Maintains adaptability to meet unit needs.
    • Maintains unit in a clean, organized manner.
    • Acts as a resource person, maintaining productivity.
    • Participates in performance improvement activities.
    • Encourages cost effectiveness.
  • Assumes leadership role:
    • Effectively problem solves, engaging staff in resolution.
    • Serves as a role model – supports staff.
    • Completes performance reviews.
    • Supports clinical areas and leadership of those areas.
    • Facilitates staff meetings, communicating critical information.
    • Assists in planning and implementation of unit goals.
    • Attend leadership meetings. Rounds with staff regularly.
    • Assists in development and management of department budgets.
  • Interpersonal skills:
    • Communicates effectively and timely.
    • Maintains adaptability. Support team atmosphere.
    • Supports customer service philosophy.
  • Adheres to hospital/department policies:
    • Maintains good attendance and punctuality.
    • Follows dress code, maintain infection prevention.
    • Adheres to safety policies. Participates in continuing education. 
    • Complies with hospital and department policies/procedures.

Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.  Ability to communicate clearly and maintain effective working relationships.  Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures regarding decontamination of instruments, sterilization, universal precautions and various hospital equipment.  Able to monitor quality control throughout the department and interpret and apply professional guidelines/standards (AAMI/AORN).  Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions/application of critical thinking. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations and to organize and prioritize multiple tasks quickly in a fast-paced environment

Experience: Five (5) years of experience in care of instrumentation, decontamination and sterilization, as a sterile processing technician or scrub technician is required. Must have two years management experience in the Sterile Processing Field.
Education: Must be a graduate of an approved program for central sterile technology or surgical technology. Associate Degree required.
Special Qualifications: Must be certified. BLS required
