Description

Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital is seeking an Inpatient and Outpatient Coder for a PRN position.

Shift: (8:00AM-4:30PM) AS NEEDED

Position Goal: Reviews clinical documentation and diagnostic results as appropriate to extract data and apply appropriate ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes for billing, internal and external reporting as well as regulatory compliance.  Under the direction of the HIM Director, accurately codes all Inpatient and Outpatient surgical encounters as documented in the ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for coding and reporting.  Resolve error reports associated with the billing process identify and report error patterns and, when necessary, assist in the design and implementation of workflow changes to reduce billing errors.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assigns codes for diagnoses, treatments and procedures according to the appropriate classification system for patient encounters.
  • Reviews appropriate Provider documentation to determine principal diagnosis, comorbidities and complications, secondary conditions and surgical procedures.
  • Utilizes technical coding principals and MS-DRG reimbursement expertise to assign appropriate ICD-10-CM diagnoses and procedures.
  • Assigns present on admissions (POA) values for inpatient diagnoses.
  • Abides by the Standards of ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and adheres to official coding guidelines.

Experience: 3-5 years hospital coding experience preferred. ICD-10 training required.
Education: High school graduate or equivalent required
Special Qualifications: Minimum of successful completion of an AHIMA approved Coding certification program required.  RHIT or CCS certification preferred
