Description

Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital is seeking a Patient Access Associate for a Part Time position.

Shift: 1:00PM EST-6:00PM EST Monday- Friday

Position Goal: To represent JHMH for all patients and/or their representatives upon arrival, assisting them with the utmost care, providing information as needed to reflect the care that they will receive at the hospital.  This position is vital to not only the patient satisfaction but the operations of the facility as well as the operational financial success.  Essential is the ability to provide excellent customer service to patients, patients’ family members, healthcare providers, medical staff offices, and peers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Direct all vendors through the vendor check-in process according to policy and procedure.
  • Notifies Patient Access Leadership if the patient has not been registered in a timely manner.
  • Inform Patient Access Leadership of patients’ extended wait times.
  • Review and monitor the surgery and radiology schedule.
  • Direct patients’ to the Patient Access bay for registration.
  • Assist patients to designated areas throughout the hospital.
  • Assist with assigning account numbers as needed.
  • Assist with the printing of charts to include required documentation for chart completion as needed.
  • Maintain data integrity of documentation in the patients’ electronic health record (EHR).
  • Knowledge of patient inquiries through computer, able to direct and provide assistance to patients, visitors, physician’s offices, and other hospital departments.
  • Maintains proficiency in the use of all systems and communication devices essential to the efficient, effective performance of Patient Access functions.
  • Performs general clerical duties as required, including but not limited to duties specified by Manager.
  • Takes initiative in handling issues of non-routing nature and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor and communicates in a calm caring manner and presentation.
  • Knowledgeable of HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).
  • Knowledgeable of procedures governing the arrival of Joint Commission and other groups.
  • Knowledgeable of the performance of all codes and alarms.
  • Responds to emails before the next business day.
  • Demonstrate superior prioritization, organizational and time management skills.
  • Actively assist and engage in other areas of the department as needed in order to achieve departmental goals.

 

Experience: Previous office experience in a hospital or medical office, patient access or financial services preferred. Proficiency in computers and typing skills.  Must have exceptional customer service skills as well as verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required

Special Qualifications: Ability to work independently. Ability to interact well with the public, i.e. children, adolescents, adults and geriatric. Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
